Hardwood Ski and Bike to host top athletes from Canada, USA, Mexico, and Colombia.

ORO MEDONTE, ON – Hardwood Ski and Bike and Pulse Racing will be hosting the Trek Store Canada Cup this Sunday, June 17th.

The 2018 Mountain Bike season is off to a great start at Hardwood Ski and Bike. It is going to be an action-packed weekend at Hardwood this Sunday with races from all over the world hitting the trails in hopes of reaching the podium. Hardwood invites you to come out and join in the fun.

“Canada Cup is one of our favourite times of the year. It brings with it electricity that is difficult to match. The best Mountain Bikers in the Country will brave the trails of Hardwood, as they navigate roots, rocks, and jumps in front of a cowbell ringing crowd. Its great to see the cycling community congregate at Hardwood for this awesome event each year” Gareth Houben – President & General Manager, Hardwood Ski and Bike.

With top athletes racing all day, the sports races start at 9:00 am, then followed by the expert race going off at 11:30 am. The UCI Elite and Junior Races will begin at 1:45 pm. There is no fee to come out and cheer on these top athletes from all over the world. With onsite BBQ, activities for the kids provided by Camp Hardwood it is the perfect way to spend the day.

Trek Store Canada Cup entry deadline

The 2018 Trek Store Canada Cup / Ontario Cup will take place on June 16/17 at Hardwood Ski and Bike.

There are some important entry deadline reminders for all riders:

·         Entry deadline for Elite, Junior, and Cadet Expert riders is Friday, June 15 at 5:00 pm. It is also mandatory for these riders or representative to sign in and pick up registration package by 5:00 pm on Saturday, June 16th.

·         For all other categories online entry will close at 5:00 pm Friday, with onsite registration available after but with a $10 late penalty.

·         Online entry at https://zone4.ca/reg.asp?id=17401 and full event info at www.pulseracing.ca

·         Riders entered in Ontario Cup full series are automatically entered.

The Canada Cup/Ontario Cup Course is marked and open for pre-riding all week!
The courses for 2018 have been redesigned to be more fun, fast, and rider friendly (read: less climbing), yet leaving in many of the favorite features and sections. We are confident the riders have a super fun race, with just enough challenge to ensure the best riders prove themselves. Updated course map and schedule is available at www.pulseracing.ca . Start times are different from Ontario Cup. Be sure to carefully check the schedule for race times, and your appropriate course.

Note: The Courses are open for riding during regular Hardwood hours of operation only and trail fees apply.

Trek Store Canada Cup Course open for Pre-Riding

The 2018 Trek Store Canada Cup / Ontario Cup Cross Country will take place on June 16/17 at Hardwood Ski and Bike.

The Canada Cup/Ontario Cup Course is preliminarily marked and open for pre-riding! The course is NOW OPEN for Pre-Ride only during regular Hardwood Ski & Bike hours and trail fees apply.

The Course this year is a big change with a throwback to more of an old school course. The course will pass the feed zone twice per lap and use some favorites like BoneShaker, Deena’s JoyRide, MBX, but also adds in some rarely used Radical trails in the far end of the system. There is also a Youth specific course for the 8:30 start.

Saturday, June 16 – Join us for an afternoon of empowerment through sports during our Champ Chat at Hardwood Ski & Bike! This Champ Chat includes an inspirational Chat and Q&A with our Fast and Female Ambassadors, physical activity sessions, yoga, autographs, and more! Sunday, June 17 – Cross Country races. There are events for all ages and abilities, with many of Canada’s best mountain bikers racing at 1:45 pm.

Brian McKeever to speak at Hardwood on June 20th

Paralympic legend Brian Mckeever, coming to inspire audiences at Hardwood Ski and Bike Wednesday, June 20th.

Canada’s flag bearer for the Opening Ceremonies of the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games, who has racked up 17 Paralympic medals including 13 gold, will speak at events at Hardwood Ski and Bike and New Path Youth and Family Services. ORO MEDONTE – Canada’s most decorated Canadian Winter Paralympian, Brian McKeever, is coming to speak at multiple events in Simcoe County. Brian will be delivering an inspirational message to audiences at Hardwood Ski and Bike on Wednesday, June 20th at 5:00 pm.

“We are working together with our community partners to bring this incredible story of resilience to our community,” says Glen Newby, New Path Youth and Family Services CEO. “Brian’s story is an incredible example of working towards your dreams despite seemingly insurmountable challenges. We are truly grateful for our collaboration with Hardwood Ski and Bike, Team Hardwood, and New Path Foundation that made this possible. We invite all members of the community to attend our events to hear Brian’s story.”

McKeever, who has been cross-country skiing since the age of three, has close ties to Hardwood Ski and Bike and Head Coach, Jack Sasseville. Sasseville coached McKeever’s older brother, Robin, who competed as Brian’s guide in the Paralympics until 2014, and coached the Canadian Para-Nordic Team to record-setting results in 2018 where they combined to win an unprecedented 16 medals.

“We are very excited about Brian’s visit. He is an inspiration to us all for the way he has been able to overcome his personal hardships and to excel, not only in the para-world but also in life,” says Jack Sasseville, Team Hardwood Head Coach. “Overcoming obstacles is important for all of us and the message rings especially true at Hardwood Ski and Bike as we continue to rebuild in the aftermath of the Christmas Day fire.”

McKeever will be speaking to audiences about the importance of never giving up on your dreams and sharing his triumphant story of overcoming adversity. McKeever began competing at the age of 13 with his hopes set on the Olympics for Cross-Country Skiing. At the age of 19, however, he was diagnosed with Stargardt disease, a macular degeneration or loss of central vision including fine detail and colour.

Brian continued to chase his dreams in both Olympic and Paralympic sport. He became the first Canadian ever to be named to both the Olympic and Paralympic Teams in 2010.

Bikefest May 26th – Summer is here

We are looking forward to a great weekend at Hardwood Ski and Bike as we officially kick off summer. Bikefest is happening Saturday, May 26th, free clinics, demos bikes, free poker ride, the single track classic is happening, BBQ and beer tent. Sunday we kick off the Hardwood Traill Running series.
