THE FISCHER LOPPET

WHEN: Saturday March 5, 2022
WHERE: Hardwood Ski and Bike, 402 W Old Barrie Rd, Oro Medonte, Ontario
WHAT: The return of our Annual Fischer Loppet at Hardwood Ski and Bike features a 15km or 30km skate and classic discipline race, along with a 5km Youth Loppet and a 2.5km kids’ race. A fun event for beginners and experienced skiers alike, this family friendly day will follow all Provincial and Local Health Regulations. We hope to offer smores over an open fire, amazing draw prizes, awards and more. All the above included with the price of registration. Our Current Winter Operating Plan can be found here. 

REGISTRATION:

• Register here.
• Early Bird pricing ends February 15th at 11:59pm.
• Online Registration closes at 11:59 pm, Thursday March 3, 2022.
• Bibs must be picked up by 9:30am on race day.

****Parents skiing with children require a valid trail pass****

COURSES:

• There are 2 Start Lines. Kids and Youth races start at the regular trail start line. 15 / 30km races start in the training flats and head out Racer Out.
• 2.7km Kids Course goes to “The Posts” and back. Slightly uphill on the way out, downhill on the way back. Groomed for Classic and Skate. Kids Course Map
• 5km Youth Loppet follows the “Torino” trail. Groomed for Classic and Skate. Youth Course Map
• 15km Course combines some of our best trails without most of the bigger hills. Groomed for classic and skate. There will be a mix of single and double track set along the course. Link to Map Here. 15km Course Map *Updated Feb 25*
• 30km Course – 2 laps of the 15km Course.

FEED STATIONS: There will be 2 feed stations per lap of the 15km Loppet Course.

AWARDS & PRIZES:

• There will be medals for the top 3 finishers in each category, available at the conclusion of the race.
• There will also be some great Draw Prizes from Fischer/Swix. Draws will be done in advance of race day, and winners will be notified via email with instructions on how to pick up your prize.

HOUSEKEEPING:

• Registration/Bib Pick up will be in “The Odell” building. Bib pick up starts at 8am. Bibs must be picked up by 9:45am.
• Races are Mass Start.
• We are still open to the public. Please be courteous to day skiers. This is a FUN event. No Olympic Medals will be handed out here.
• Race bibs must be returned at the finish line. There will be Bib collectors assisting with this. There will be a $75 charge for any unreturned bibs.
• There is a 90-minute cut-off for 30km racers to complete their first lap.

SCHEDULE:

FACILITIES:

• Main Parking is in the upper parking lot. Lower lot parking is reserved for members (enforced on weekends).
• The Chalet is open, with Washrooms, Grab and Go Food Service, Retail Store, Rentals, Service and more.
• Big Mouth Sandwiches is open for food service. Outdoor dining is available at numerous picnic tables surrounding outdoor fire pits.
• First Aid is provided by Hardwood Snow Patrol. First Aid is based in the Rabbit Hutch.
• Waxing benches are located in the Swix Waxing Trailer, just adjacent to the Odell Building and Main Chalet.

WEATHER / ACTS OF GOD:

• The course is subject to change without notice, due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
• Cancellation due to weather or Acts of God will be announced as soon as possible. There is no Rain Date. Refunds will be issued, less zone 4 fees and a $5 administration fee.

Hardwood Ski and Bike is thrilled to once again be offering our famous Moonlight Snowshoes! While there will be changes to make things “COVID” friendly, this year’s Snowshoes will have all the magic of years past.

Join us for a guided hike through our beautiful forests.  Your night begins with check-in and a small doubleshot of soup to help keep you warm.  You’ll be grouped together by speed/experience, and be guided to The Lookout just in time for sunset. Enjoy the fire and best view with a hot drink and tart.  Make the journey back to the Chalet, which has been transformed into a spacious dining room with live music.

What’s included in the ticket?
Besides the guided snowshoe, we inlcude a check-in soup, warm beverage and tart at The Lookout and a meal of local food with unlimited soft beverages and one wine, cider or beer.  Live music will play throughout dinner.

Are additional alcoholic beverages available?
You may purchase additional drink tickets for our house wine, cider or beer. We also offer bottle purchases for “top shelf” bottles of  wine and sparkling wine.

How Long is the snowshoe/hike?
It depends on your fitness level. The faster groups may return within 40 minutes, while the last group may be 2 hours.

Can I use my own snowshoes?
Absolutely! We offer snowshoes for rent, but you may certainly use your own.

Do I need a headlamp?
This event will begin before sunset but some groups may be returning after dark. On clear nights, the moon should give enough light to safely snowshoe, but we recommend brining a headlamp or renting one.

I have an allergy, can you accommodate me?
We will make every effort to do so. Please advise us in the registration if you have dietary resitrictions.

Can I bring my children?
No. This event is 19+ only.
