Cold Weather Tips

By February 11, 2016 News, Uncategorized, Winter
It is going to be a colder weekend of skiing. Here are some tips to stay warm when you ski:
1. Add extra layers. One or two extra layers will keep you warm. The first layer should be a garment that wicks moisture away from your skin.
2. Keep your fingers and toes warm. Use mitts instead of gloves. If your fingers are still cold try a glove liner in your mitts. We also have hand and feet warmers that you can put inside your mitts and boots. Invest in a pair of boot covers or use an old prairie trick – take an old pair of oversize wool socks, cut a hole for your binding and put them on over your boots.
3. Cover your neck and face. The latest and best way to do this is with a “Buff”. These are so versatile and inexpensive.
Remember your hands and feet are at their coldest when you first go outside. Your body naturally shunts your blood from your extremities to your core to keep you alive. Once you ski and warm up the  blood will go back to your hands and feet. You can swing your arms and legs around to get the blood back to your fingers and toes.
Skiing in the winter cold can be a lot of fun. As they say in Norway “there is no such thing as weather that is too cold, just people who are improperly dressed”.
See you at Hardwood on the trails.
