Junior Devo is a developmental and competitive cross-country ski program for athletic children aged 9 to 13 who
are interested in racing at the Pee Wee and Midget levels. Previous skiing experience is not necessary, but a willingness to learn about the sport is. Commencing on Saturday, September 17, 2011, participants will meet on a weekly basis for group workouts and engage in a variety of age-appropriate training activities featuring a mixture of games, outdoor adventure activities, fun competitions, time trials and workshops. Ski-specific dryland training activities (e.g. hiking and striding with poles) will be introduced, but the focus will be on outdoor fun and the development of general fitness, strength and endurance.
With the arrival of snow our focus shifts to an emphasis on ski-specific skills and technical proficiency on skis. In addition to regular ski technique sessions, activities will include a mixture of on-snow speed, endurance and strength workouts, on-snow games and skills competitions, and race simulations. Athletes will also learn about pre-race preparation and event specific race strategies and tactics (e.g. mass starts, sprints, pacing).
Schedule - Junior Devo will meet every Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (except when we are racing)
starting September 17, 2011 through to early March, 2012.
Coaching – Graham Longford is the Coach of Junior Devo. He will be assisted by Senior Devo coach, Mark Doble, and volunteer coaches from within Team Hardwood.
Total Program Fee – $500.00 + HST. Includes a full winter, and a discounted fall season’s pass for the Hardwood Ski and Bike Facility ($110 value).
